Our Approach

Helping young people turn their emotional challenges into emotional growth

The demands and expectations of modern society can be overwhelming for a young person. Without reliable resources and effective coping strategies, young individuals may become vulnerable to anxiety, depression, trauma and low self-esteem. Many of these challenges are deeply personal and have affected those we care about most.

At Balanced Boundaries Counselling, we have profound empathy for young people facing struggles they often do not understand. We are committed to transforming these challenges into opportunities for growth.

Focusing on what is right with someone is always more important than what is wrong with them

We believe that with the right support, young individuals can navigate their formative years with confidence and strength. Our counselling services empower you to recognise your strengths, build resilience and thrive despite life's challenges.

Our Process

For teenagers under 18:
We begin with an initial session with a parent or guardian to gather a comprehensive understanding of the young person’s needs and any concerns from the family’s perspective. We also ensure that the young person is actively involved in the process by seeking their input when developing a tailored support plan that feels right for them.

After the initial session, we arrange a follow-up where the young person meets with us in a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space. The number and frequency of sessions are discussed collaboratively, ensuring both the young person and their guardians feel comfortable with the plan. While we prioritise confidentiality, we also maintain appropriate parental involvement in alignment with duty of care.

For young adults 18 and over:
As legal adults, clients over 18 can engage in counselling independently. The process begins with an initial session where we discuss their goals, concerns and preferences for therapy. Together, we develop a personalised support plan, outlining the recommended number of sessions and key focus areas. Sessions are entirely confidential unless there is a risk of harm, in which case appropriate measures will be taken to ensure safety.

Whether under or over 18, our goal is to create a collaborative and empowering experience, helping young people navigate challenges with confidence and support.

Sessions can take place in a variety of accessible locations, including our established psychology practice or another setting that feels comfortable and convenient for you. Our service is designed with flexibility in mind, ensuring support is available in the environment that best suits your needs.
